Hello and welcome to my Deviant Art page! :) My name is Nadia Janjua, and I am a practicing Architect, Visual Artist & Art Educator residing in the Washington, D.C. area. In late 2011, I decided to take a hiatus from practicing architecture to pursue my dreams for making, living, breathing and sharing my art on a full-time, non-stop, guilt free basis! Although every now and then the techie & construction geek in me still needs to get my architecture fill, I have truly been blessed to be living my dreams as a full-time artist ever since.
 
To tell you a little bit more about myself, I was born and raised out in the tranquil, quiet mountains of Western Maryland with my other three siblings. My parents are originally from Pakistan & Kashmir, and throughout my life, I have enjoyed a generous bit of traveling to other parts of the world which has brought me a deep appreciation for culture, religion, history, humanity and of course, art! 

I have always loved drawing since the tender age of three, but one fortuitous evening when I was 16 years old, I came across the “Bob Ross” show on PBS — after that, my life was forever changed! Picking up a paint brush, I felt connected to my voice in a way I had never experienced. As a quiet person, I had always had an active inner life, but now I had discovered a way to express and articulate my life’s experiences through colors. What I discovered, and continue to discover through my creative process, is that colors truly challenge language to encompass them — in other words, there are more sensations we feel from color, than words to describe them. I truly believe that within every color, lays a story and an experience waiting to be unraveled. 

This, precisely, is what my art work is all about. I am deeply inspired by my spiritual and emotional connection to my faith, and it is the search for insight and understanding that has led to an infinite source of inspiration for my creative works. As you can tell, I deeply love color; I love texture; I love materiality; I love up-cycling found objects, and I love writing. All of that love gets poured into each and every one of my works.
